Micah 6:8: "He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."

Evil is alive and well in the United States, too. How quickly we try to forget. In a land of justice for all, how quickly we pray that becomes justice for those like us.

I loved how she responded: what statistic will be high enough for us to care? Surely where one injustice is perpetrated that is too much for us to ignore. But we will make it not our problem. Our problem is the salvation of souls. But what soul can believe in a God of justice when they are brutalized and enslaved? What soul can believe in a God of love when we cannot demonstrate love enough to brave a war with evil?

If we serve a God who is just, we must act justly. If we serve a God who loves, we must love. If we expect mercy, we must love showing mercy. Therein is the humility: submitting ourselves to His pattern of life. I guess Micah knew what he was talking about.

Chris,

Thanks for your response. It is horrifying how easy we have been conditioned to turn a blind eye to the injustice in our own back yards. Did you read Wade Burleson's post today? Horrifying!
